What is an IBCLC?
An Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a health-care professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding and has been certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. Educational criteria must be met, and thousands of hours of breastfeeding management must be completed to sit for the Masters level exam. IBCLC's are required to complete on-going continuing education in the field of human lactation and must successfully pass the International Board exam every 10 years.
